The local network
As some of you may know, we are involved in the running of a number of social networks. One of which is the Oldham Business Network that we set up just over a year ago.
The social network site highlights businesses in Oldham and gives members the opportunity to socialise or ‘do business’ with each other online. OBN is a niche network and we now have over 560 members with more joining on a daily basis.
An easy way to engage with people
Building a social network like OBN for your customers or community gives you the opportunity to learn about the individuals that use it and gives a platform to communicate with them.
Oldham Business Network is a great form of communication for people in Oldham who are running their own businesses and is a perfect example of how to build a community properly online.
Good things can come from getting people who share a common interest to network or socialise on a regular basis.
Nothing too formal
Every month there is an OBN social, which is an opportunity for members to get together over a drink in a relaxed setting. There are no fees, no presentations and no formal networking, which creates a much nicer environment.
The members drive the network and it has grown into a successful social networking site that people use on a regular basis.
So the nomination! Well, we have been nominated for the 2011 pride in Oldham awards. This is the first of our social networking sites to get a nomination for an award and I have to admit I am really excited about it. To have all our hard work recognised by this nomination is brilliant.
The idea of bringing business people closer together in Oldham has worked and I am delighted at what we have achieved. If you build a network for your community or customers and put them first, you will succeed every time.
