Web
Previously, software was built to be installed and run on a single computer. Web based applications, however, allow an application to be run in the cloud and accessed by many users on many different devices. The opportunities for collaboration and interactivity are endless. Web apps include things like project management & interactive tools but they can also be games and utilities, such as calculators, or information based tools such as news, weather and sports aggregators.
Mobile
Applications based on smart phones and tablets allow users to do things never before possible while on the move. There are two distinct types: native and web. Native mobile apps are installed on the phone and are typically faster; they communicate easily to other software on the phone. Mobile web apps are accessed remotely through a web browser. There are pros and cons to each approach, and some clients opt for a hybrid of the two.
Social
Due to the dawn of social networking online, people are now more connected than ever. Creating applications for social networks not only means launching on a platform with thousands of potential users, but can also provide those users with the ability to interact with each other. Depending on your specific requirements, social apps like a competition, game, utility or discussion, can even be based on your website and mobile device.
